Reviews

Grade 4-7-Most of the text is identical to the 1990 edition, although demographic, political, economic, and communication information has been updated through 1997. As in the first edition, Rummel discusses poverty, unemployment, and other national problems, thereby avoiding the relentlessly upbeat and positive picture usually presented in country books for children. Some of the black-and-white and full-color photographs are new to this edition. However, a few pictures appear a page or two after their topics were discussed, interrupting the flow of the narrative. More current than Barbara Hall's Mexico in Pictures (Lerner, 1994) and more impartial than Conrad Stein's Mexico (Dillon, 1996), Rummel's revision is a worthy purchase.
