Because the authors include their personal thoughts and perspective, their far-reaching text is compelling and moving. The photographs are splendid, technically and emotionally. Also featured is a list of elephant-related conservation programs. While the photographs in Boyd Norton's The African Elephant: Last Days of Eden ( LJ 11/1/91) are also excellent, his text is less complete, confined mainly to one perspective and one locale, East Africa. This is highly recommended for all collections.
