This book is a call for agricultural reformindeed, for ecological survivalthrough a program of land stewardship. The program involves turning away from a mechanical system of farming that overworks the land, overuses chemical fertilizers, and destroys the soil's own fertility. These methods are putting U.S. farmers out of business and causing the highest levels of erosion since the Dust Bowl. The authors are involved in the Land Stewardship Project, a nonprofit educational program.
