About the Author

Ed Burke, who has written or edited ten books on cycling, is renowned for translating the latest scientific research into practical applications for cyclists. In addition to being the executive editor of Cycling Science and managing editor of Performance Conditioning for Cycling, he has written extensively on cycling physiology, training, and nutrition for Winning Magazine, NORBA News, and Bicycling.

Ed received a doctorate in exercise physiology from The Ohio State University in 1979. A staff member of the 1980 and 1984 U.S. Olympic cycling teams, he is now coordinator of sports science technology for the national cycling team. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the U.S. Cycling Federation, and he is Vice President of Research for the National Strength and Conditioning Association. An associate professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Colorado, Ed lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, Kathleen.
