Are you encouraging teamwork and self-confidence in your classes? Does your curriculum promote positive social interaction, as well as psychomotor and cognitive learning?

Cooperative Learning in Physical Education helps you teach students to value each other through positive interdependence, individual accountability, and collaborative skills.

The book explains why and how you should develop cooperative learning lessons. You’ll learn

· about the benefits of cooperative learning and its positive impact on your students;

· how to use cooperative activities to supplement or substitute for your existing curriculum;

· how to modify existing activities in your curriculum by using cooperative structures; and

· how to use structures and prescribed goals to develop new activities.

The book also provides 45 activities that encourage participants to interact verbally and physically and work together to solve various movement tasks. A handy Activity Finder grid helps you locate the right activity for the right situation. Activities are listed according to these areas:

· Movement concepts and basic motor skills

· Dance

· Games

· Physical fitness

· Gymnastics

Each activity is goal directed so learning occurs in the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. The variations provided for each activity will help you meet the needs of more students and challenge them in different ways.
