Reviews

PreS-Gr 2--Teachers will welcome this treatment of David Adler's book (Holiday House, 1993) for listening centers during Black History Month, Women's History Month, and the rest of the year. Adler presents a simple, clear biography of Rosa Parks, exploring both her childhood and adult life. He makes it obvious that her role in the Civil Rights movement did not begin and end on a bus, but rather lasted throughout her life. The male narrator reads clearly and unemotionally, presenting the facts as Adler reports them so listeners can draw their own conclusions. One side of the tape has page-turn signals, the other does not. A good addition to collections needing materials highlighting people whose simple actions have led to significant change in our nation.
