Reviews

In their introduction, the authors claim that they will show "from a point of view as close to the rider . . . as possible, what bicycle road racing looks and feels like at the top professional level." They provide background and history; biographies of ten current and past champions, e.g., Eddie Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and Greg LeMond; and accounts of races over the last few years of the February-October season, including Tour de France and Coors Classic. Well-written, factual, and entertaining, this gives some of the drama and atmosphere of what it must be like as a pro bike racer. Recommended for large collections.Thomas K. Fry, UCLA Libs.
