Charles Lawrence Goolsby grew up in Woodland, Ga., within sight of the former Atlanta, Birmingham, and Coast main line. From the days when his father took him trackside to watch doubleheaded steam engines struggle up the town's long northbound grade, he has been a lifelong enthusiast and student of the line's checkered history and constantly evolving modern operations. He was a charter member of the ACL/SAL Historical Society and currently serves as its Secretary-Treasurer. He has written one previous book, Atlantic Coast Line Passenger Service-The Postwar Years( TLC Publishing, 1999). Larry is a social policy analyst for the American Public Human Services Association in Washington, D C and lives with his family in Kensington, Md.
