These 52 tips grew out of at least 52 different sources and took many years to compile. They began in kernel form in various courses, books, workshops, and discussions. They grew as he used them in practical writing assignments and taught them in workshops. They reached adulthood when Ray posted them on his website and emailed them to fellow writers.

The event that sparked Ray Wiseman's writing career occurred when as a child he discovered a collection of his father's published writings. Although this event planted the seed, it never germinated until a college professor identified what she saw as a special gift. Still, growth came slowly, until his employer challenged him to take over the company's technical writing and publishing department.
Ray began his working life as an electronics technician then studied for the ministry. He spent two years in the pastorate and nearly five years in South Africa with a missionary society. Returning home he worked as a video systems engineer and technical writer/publisher before retiring to pursue a career as a writer and speaker. He has edited a magazine, written nearly 1,000 newspaper columns and features, and authored eight books.
Ray graduated from RCC Schools (electronics), has a B.A. (general program) from the University of Waterloo, a B.G.B.S. (biblical studies) from Briercrest Schools, and studied linguistics, cultural anthropology, and communications at the graduate level in Toronto and Nairobi. He is active as a professional member in two writing organizations, teaches writing seminars, and critiques and coaches new authors.
