"My grandfather once knocked down Ernest Hemingway, or so I was told..."

So begins an intriguing journey of discovery to Cuba. Many years ago, Javier Lopez Angulo met the celebrated writer and introduced him to Prohibition-era Havana, which throbbed with revolution and rumba. Now, his grandson returns to find out why their friendship ended so abruptly.

This exciting and entertaining novel portrays Hemingway from a Cuban perspective, and recreates a fascinating period of Cuban history, the bloody overthrow of the dictator Machado in 1933. It will appeal not just to Hemingway fans and those intrigued by Cuba but also anyone interested in richly detailed historical fiction. .

From the Publisher:
Hemingway was the most American of writers, yet he lived much of his life in Cuba. He had a tremendous affection for the island and it deepy influenced his work, especially his best-known novel "the Old Man and the Sea."

Now, this fascinating new novel brings to life his early days in Havana. Hemingway arrives in 1932 for the marlin fishing, but gets more than he bargained for when he meets Jane Mason, the glamorous but unstable wife of a wealthy businessman. Their love affair takes place against the backdrop of revolution as the Cuban students battle the dictator Machado in the streets.

"Welcome to Havana, Senor Hemingway" is a carefully researched historical novel based upon Hemingway's unpublished letters and journals. It evokes an often ignored period of his life as well as a fascinating period in Cuban history.

From the Author:
During a trip to Cuba, I was struck by Hemingway's continuing presence . He moved there in the 1930s and lived outside of Havana until just before his death in 1961. Today in Havana, you can visit where he drank at the Floridita, where he stayed at the Ambos Mundos Hotel, and where he went fishing, at the port of Cojimar. In "Welcome to Havana, Senor Hemingway" I wanted to explore what drew him to Cuba and what fascinated him about the island and its people. In many ways, he is a symbol of the bond between the Cuban and American peoples.
