About the Author

Julius Ernst Wilhelm Stinde wurde am 28.8.1841 in Kirchnüchel/Holstein geboren; er starb am 8.8.1905 in Olsberg/Ruhr. Stinde wuchs in Lensahn/Holstein auf. Nach dem Abitur am Eutiner Gymnasium studierte er Chemie in Kiel, Gießen und Jena. Nach der Promotion 1863 war er bis 1866 Werkführer einer chemischen Fabrik in Hamburg. Als freier Mitarbeiter schrieb er für die Zeitschrift Reform Gedichte, Humoresken, Erzählungen, Theaterkritiken und populärwissenschaftliche Beiträge. Als hauptberuflicher Journalist arbeitete er u.a. für die Spenersche Zeitung, die Wiener Presse und die Fliegenden Blätter; daneben schrieb er für das Karl-Schultze-Theater in Hamburg Volksstücke und die romantische Oper Ännchen von Tharau . 1876 ging er als freier Schriftsteller nach Berlin. Ab 1879 schrieb er für das Deutsche Monatsblatt Artikel unter dem Pseudonym Wilhelmine Buchholz.
