If it were not for the very great amount of interest and encouragement manifested by all classes of citizens, we might be justified in saying that this enterprise grew out of the efforts of the Woolen Manufacturers' Association to establish a permanent annual exposition of textile fabrics in the west, and at the head of which movement was Mr. Geo. S. Bowen of Chicago. But as the great inter-state Exposition is the child of the pluck and energy of Chicago, we can only say that the exposition of textile fabrics was a forerunner.
