Excerpt from American Art Annual, 1901, Vol. 3
An endeavor has been made to show the exact purposes of the vari ous societies, the ways and means by which they were established and are being carried on, in order that other societies may benefit by their experience. Calendars of exhibitions and lectures are given, not only as a record of the work accomplished by one club, but as a guide and incentive for others.
Since the first volume of the American Art Annual was published, two years ago, a great advancement is noticeable in the work of the School Art Leagues and the close connection between the opening of Libraries and the establishment of Art Galleries and Art Clubs. The activity of the Architectural Clubs has been increased, and this is due in a great measure to the formation of the Architectural League of A-merica. Many of these Clubs have issued cloth bound catalogues containing special articles and illustrations in addition to the list of exhibits.
I acknowledge with thanks my indebtedness to the members of the Advisory Committee, the secretaries of the various societies and others who have assisted in preparing this volume.
