Synopsis

This book tells the story of Jonah, a prophet who is sent by God to preach against the wickedness of the city of Ninevah. Jonah disobeys God and runs away to sea. He is caught in a storm and thrown overboard. He is swallowed by a great fish and stays inside for three days and three nights. While in the fish, Jonah prays to God and repents of his disobedience. God hears Jonah's prayer and commands the fish to vomit him up on dry land. Jonah goes to Ninevah and preaches against their wickedness. The people of Ninevah repent and God does not destroy the city. This book teaches us that God is merciful and forgiving, and that we should always obey him. It also shows us that God's love and mercy extend to all people, even to those who have disobeyed him.
