This book is a compilation of formulas for the practical microscopist. Gleaned from the author's extensive work with various materials and processes, the collection includes not only stains but also methods for hardening, fixing, embedding, clearing, and mounting. The larger texts do not always agree on the measurements given for the same formula. To rectify this, the author has consulted the original or most authentic source, and in cases where the formula was too vague, a detailed process has been worked out experimentally. Although primarily intended as a guide in staining processes, the most approved methods of hardening, fixing, embedding, clearing, and mounting are also described.
