Synopsis
This book is an elementary introduction to the use of the microscope. It begins with simple instructions for the use of the instrument; descriptions of the parts of which it is composed; and the best manner of preparing and mounting objects for investigation. It does not pretend to deal with the knowledge of vegetable and animal tissues, but commences with a few simple investigations, both of opaque and transparent objects; and the succeeding chapters contain an account of the more important points of structure in the vegetable and animal kingdoms, as well as short descriptions of many of the most interesting objects, both living and dead, which the microscope reveals. The work is well illustrated with plates, and will enable the possessor to entertain and instruct both himself and his friends by the employment of the microscope.
