Excerpt from The Sigma Phi Epsilon Journal, Vol. 4: December 25, 1906
In 1875 the first fraternity was organized at Purdue, it being Sigma Chi, which was not recognized at this time. Its endeavor to become recognized by the faculty led to very extensive litigation, which, as it is often misunderstood, may be of some interest to Sigma Phi Epsilon. This is known as the Purdue Case.
