Synopsis
This book presents a series of letters between a minister and an individual questioning their faith in the face of the minister's comments. The author had been brought up to believe in endless punishment as a tenet of his Christian faith until reading a book in which the minister argued that universal salvation would be the outcome. The author reached out to the minister to request an explanation of how this claim could be squared with the dominant views of hell, and began to doubt his own beliefs once he could not get a satisfactory answer. The author's doubts are outlined and presented through the lens of biblical passages, challenging common interpretations and presenting alternative meanings. The author invites the reader to examine the concept of an all-loving God who would condemn his creations to endless torment and to question whether such a doctrine is truly in keeping with the teachings of Christ.
