Synopsis

The basement door opened, and a dim bulb came on at the top of the stairs.
"Got you now, bitch," came the raspy voice. The stairs creaked as he started down.
On the opposite wall I saw a steep metal staircase leading to a bulkhead door. I grabbed a ping-pong ball that had rolled under the table.
Twelve steps. The creaking stopped.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are," sang the Lizard.
I threw the ping-pong ball to my right. It hit something metallic, and he moved in that direction. I leaped out from behind the table an bounded up the metal steps to the bulkhead.
He growled, stumbling toward me.
I fought with the lever, forced the pin out of the hole, and pushed up the heavy door. The Lizard grabbed my right ankle and pulled my foot off the step. The door slammed, narrowly missing my fingers. I leaned over and stabbed his hand as hard as I could with the key.
About the Author
Toby Speed lives on Long Island and is the mother of three fabulous daughters. Death Over Easy is her first mystery. Although most of her research took place on terra firma, she learned how to fly an airplane to write this book.
