Synopsis
John Bekker returns in First Light to face the toughest challenge of his career.
Hired by a man dying of cancer to locate the baby girl he gave up for adoption forty years ago, Bekker discovers the baby wasn't adopted but sold to a New York couple named Gertz. They named the child Sarah, and Sarah Gertz disappeared without a trace twelve years ago in Washington DC.
Bekker uncovers evidence linking Sarah Gertz to the powerful Senator Oliver Koch, who is the next candidate for Vice-President. Twelve years ago, Koch and Sarah had an affair that left her pregnant.
Bekker is convinced Koch had her murdered, but unless he can prove it, a murderer will be in the White House.

About the Author
Al Lamanda, a native of New York, is the author of the novels Dunston Falls, Walking Homeless, Running Homeless, Sunset, Sunrise and First Light. He presently resides in Maine where he continues to write.

In his third outing, retired cop John Bekker (he’s a private investigator now) is hired by a prominent physician to find his daughter—problem is, the man hasn’t seen the girl since he gave her up for adoption four decades ago. The lawyer who handled the adoption is no help (he can’t remember the case), and when Bekker discovers the girl wasn’t actually adopted at all, but rather sold, he begins to wonder if he has any chance at all of tracking her down. But Bekker gets lucky, if you can call what happens next luck, and soon he’s investigating a missing-persons case that could actually be murder. The tough ex-cop is a pretty standard genre character, but the author works hard to make him stand out from the crowd, and he gives him some pretty complicated cases to crack, ones that require him to exercise his brains as well as his muscles. A solid series in the hard-boiled tradition. --David Pitt
