Synopsis
This book, an essential tool for professional programmers, removes the complexities of loss of significance due to round-off in computer calculations. It offers a comprehensive system to deliver highly accurate answers to a vast number of significant digits, addressing a problem that has plagued programmers and compromised the accuracy of results for decades. Noting that the recent trend toward building computers with built-in hardware for double-precision operations is only a partial solution, the author provides yardsticks by which the accuracy of computer results can be judged. Beyond providing a means to verify accuracy, this book also serves as a reference collection of subroutines and programs for solving a large class of problems requiring high precision, ultimately advancing the field of computational science.
