Synopsis
This book documents the proceedings of the 5th Materials Research Symposium on Solid State Chemistry. The symposium explored the novel high-temperature inorganic crystalline materials, with an emphasis on crystal chemical and structural aspects, and provided a forum for discussion on both current research problems and new techniques. The book is divided into three main groupings: Oxides, Borides, Carbides, Silicides, and Related Materials; Chalcogenides; and Oxides and Nonstoichiometry. The text includes three unscheduled talks and an open discussion period consisting of four impromptu lectures on very current subjects dealing with stoichiometry. An edited version of the floor discussion of each paper is also given.
