Gr 5 Up This biography tells the story of a gifted woman unafraid of working hard to develop and refine that gift. Parts of the text were drawn from Duncan's autobiography, so that the thoughts and feelings of this remarkable woman are expressed in her own words. The illustrations are black-and-white photographs of Duncan not only as dancer but also as individual, and the photographs of related historical events help set the context for her life. She was a radical feminist ahead of her time in her politics as well as her art, and she never stopped pursuing her art and living her life as she believed a free and independent woman should have the right to do. Frances E. Millhouser, Arlington County Department of Libraries, Va.
