The Untold Stories of Colorado's Wild Women

In Colorado Madams, award-winning Western historian Michael Rutter dives into the raucous, real-life stories of the women who turned the Colorado frontier into a land of opportunity—not just for miners, but for anyone bold enough to seize it. Set against the backdrop of the 1858 gold rush and Denver's rise from muddy mining camp to booming metropolis, these tales reveal a fascinating and often overlooked side of Western history.

  • Explore the rise of Denver from gold camp to bustling boomtown—and how vice helped fuel the economy
  • Uncover the complex portraits of madams who doubled as entrepreneurs, healthcare advocates, and social powerhouses
  • Look at the blurred lines between morality, survival, and ambition in a rapidly changing frontier
  • Featuring rare historical photographs and vivid detail that immerse readers in the gritty glamour of the Old West

Whether you're drawn to scandalous stories or serious scholarship, Colorado Madams delivers a compelling mix of both—where high heels met high stakes on the wild Colorado frontier.
