As there now seem to be sufficient grounds for thinking that ere long the Revised Version of Holy Scripture will obtain a wider circulation and more general use than has hitherto been accorded to it, it seems desirable that the whole subject of the Revised Version, and its use in the public services of the Church, should at last be brought formally before the clergy and laity, not only of this province, but of the whole English Church. -from the First Address Contents 1. About the Author
C. J. Ellicott (1819-1905) was Bishop of Gloucester and an Honorary Fellow of St. John's College, Cambridge University. He is the author of 'Foundations of Sacred Study, ' 'Christus Comprobator, ' and 'Historical Lectures on the Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ.' And he edited 'A New Testament Commentary for English Readers' (3 vols.) and 'An Old Testament Commentary for English Readers' (5 vols.).
