About the Author

Henry Haggard served for six years as a diplomat in Britain's African colonies, gaining the experiences which were to fuel his exotic adventure stories. Haggard's first literary success was King Solomon's Mines, which he followed with Allan Quatermain, She, Ayesha, and Jess. Following the publication of these novels, he travelled to Egypt, Mexico, and Iceland, and was made a Knight of the British Empire in 1919. Motion pictures have been made of many of Haggard's novels.
