Be a fly on the wall in the time of the Romans. Patrol with a windswept centurion, eavesdrop on Roman nobles - Candidus and Flavinus - in the smelly toilets and dine at a tasty banquet.
These pages are packed full of up-to-date information about the world of the Romans from the latest archaeological discoveries. With drawings, notes, squashed insects and messy fingerprints, this book shows you history as it really happened!

Kindergarten-Grade 3-With sketchbooklike color illustrations accompanied by brief captions and factoids, this book attempts to give a glimpse of life in a British Roman fort and the surrounding countryside. Subjects include the life of a soldier, children, religion, and more, tied together by a loose story about the birthday party of a commander's wife. Factual errors make this book an unnecessary purchase. Specifically, the authors state that Romans made themselves vomit in order to eat more (incorrect and gross) and that some houses had a special room called a vomitorium specifically for that purpose (a vomitorium is a large exit in an amphitheater). These basic, easily verifiable errors should have never made it to print. Save your money.-Lynda S. Poling, Long Beach Public Library, CA
