Since the increased attention toward diversity in the workplace, the concepts of "diversity initiatives" and "diversity management" have become a common place in many conversations among academics and practitioners alike. The diversity movement in the workplace originated from the increased avocation for equal treatment of minority groups due to the dynamic composition of the modern workforce. Many organizations were forced to face these changes and the dilemma of how to respond to group differences to maintain and/or increase organization effectiveness and productivity. This volume will present new research on the colorblindness versus multiculturalism debate, assist in broadening the diversity ideology conversation, share this conversation across social science domains including industrial/organizational psychology, social psychology, and law and public policy, and highlight how the nature of diversity ideology may be fluid and therefore be different depending on the diversity dimension discussed.

About the Author:
Kecia M. Thomas, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Psychology and African-American Studies at the University of Georgia. As an Industrial Organizational Psychologist, she specializes in understanding the complex dynamics involved in increasingly diverse workplaces. Her research focuses on diversity within the areas of organizational recruitment, leadership, socialization, and career-development. As a practitioner, her work focuses on diversity and the evaluation of organizational initiatives. Much of her work centers on the identification and analysis of the unique organizational realities facing minorities and women in the workplace, and she has published numerous journal articles on these topics.
Review:

"In this provocative and timely book, Thomas, Plaut, and Tran bring together a range of expert voices to address a critical issue for diversity in organizations: how philosophies, values, and beliefs about what diversity is, how it matters, and how it should be addressed connect to vital outcomes for organizations and their people. The chapters of Diversity Ideologies in Organizations effectively combine theory, research, and insightful analysis, resulting in a rich, unique, and valuable contribution that will be quite useful to policy makers, diversity practitioners, and scholars."-Bernardo M. Ferdman, Ph.D., Professor, California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, and Editor, Diversity at Work: The Practice of Inclusion
