Synopsis
Ce livre rassemble seize photographies réalisées par Thomas Struth en Israël et en Cisjordanie occupée par Israël en 2009, 2011 et 2014. Struth a poursuivi sa pratique de créer des images singulières, chacune dans l'un des domaines strictement ségrégués qu'il a développés tout au long de sa carrière. : photographies de rue, portraits, paysages et photographies de haute technologie. Chaque image porte la complexité durable et la distillation visuelle de l'expérience humaine pour laquelle Struth est connu. Abordant la pure diversité et la quiddité du monde habité, il tente de représenter ce qu'il a appelé «une particule du conflit de la région», de photographier, fragment par fragment, le paysage politique et social conflictuel. Ulrich Loock propose dans son essai dans le livre que cette série d'images est unifiée par «des strates d'antithèses [qui] se révèlent comme une matrice traversant l'œuvre», alors que Struth tente de saisir la réalité circonscrite d'une région où la coexistence a échoué , une réalité inaccessible à la photographie. À certains égards, cet ensemble extraordinaire de travaux s'écarte de la pratique traditionnelle de Struth: toutes les expositions sont liées à une seule réalité géographique et politique, comme si Struth trouvait tous les aspects de sa vision photographique au même endroit, et comme si Israël et l'Occident La banque était un conteneur géographique pour l'étendue de la condition humaine. Le photographe allemand Thomas Struth (né en 1954) est internationalement reconnu pour son vaste travail, qui comprend des photographies de villes, de paysages, de portraits et d'intérieurs architecturaux. Il s'est formé à la Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (1973-1980) et, pendant ce temps, il a été le premier artiste en résidence aux studios P.S.1 à Long Island City. De 1993 à 1996, il a été le premier professeur de photographie à la nouvelle Hochschule für Gestaltung de Karlsruhe. Il a exposé dans le monde entier et un grand nombre de monographies de son œuvre ont été publiées, dont Thomas Struth: Photographs 1978-2010 (2010) et Thomas Struth: Unconscious Places (2012).
