Synopsis

Peter Pongratz' Werke der vergangen fünf Jahre zeigen eine bissig ironische Reaktion auf die Vorliebe der österreichischen Kunstszene für die internationale Konzeptkunst. In den 70er Jahren thematisierte er Österreich als verkitschte Alpenrepublik. Mittlerweile kommentiert seine Bilderwelt "permanente Ärgernisse" zeitgeistiger Gesellschaftsspiele innerhalb der Kunstinstitutionen. "Böse" Stadtansichten kontrastieren mit arkadischen Garten-Bildern der dalmatinischen Lebenswelt des Künstlers. Ergänzt sind die Malereien durch Skulpturen, die in jüngster Zeit in Korcula und parallel zur "Bilderwelt" entstanden. Plus: 156 meist farbige Abbildungen.

About the Author

Peter Pongratz, 1960–64 Studium an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Wien und Berlin. 1968 Gründungsmitglied der Gruppe "Wirklichkeiten". Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, u. a. Würdigungspreis zum Österreichischen Staatspreis für bildende Kunst. Unzählige Ausstellungen im In- und Ausland. Lebt und arbeitet in Wien und auf Korcula, Kroatien.
