Medical progress requires improved standards in the evaluation of therapy, in quality assurance, and in diagnostics. Increased interest is therefore focused on the direct assessment of performance and disturbances. Methods currently available include rating scales and apparative procedures. However, problems associated with these methods and the great variety in existing procedures make it necessary to establish general standards. The present volume is the result of a symposium on the use of current performance methodologies in the evaluation of extrapyramidal motor disturbances. The results presented here show that the greatest difficulties lie in early evaluation of therapeutic success and the recognition of the disturbances at an early stage. This book presents an overview of the current procedures and thus will serve a basis for further improvement and standardisation.
