There has been very rapid development in computing in recent years and this is now a general trend in the field of orthopedics. In orthopedic trauma, there is much enthusiasm surrounding the use of surgical navigation in musculoskeletal trauma. In light of these developments, the successful first edition of this book has been revised and updated including new information to the original chapter on CAOS (computer-aided orthopedic surgery) and an additional chapter on osteoporosis. A chapter on hip fracture rehabilitation has also become necessary. This updated book provides an excellent resource in trauma for orthopedic residents around the world.

From the Back Cover:

There has been very rapid development in computing in recent years and this is now a general trend in the field of orthopedics. Orthopedic trauma is no exception, as there is much enthusiasm surrounding the use of surgical navigation in musculoskeletal trauma. In light of these developments, the successful first edition of this book has been revised and updated. A lot of new information has been added to the original chapter on CAOS (computer-aided orthopedic surgery). Also, as the WHO has published new guidelines on osteoporosis management, together with the many conceptual changes in this area, adding a chapter on osteoporosis is both timely and appropriate. A chapter on hip fracture rehabilitation has also become necessary, not only because it echoes the teachings of the chapter on osteoporosis, but also because of the projected exponential increase in the occurrence of this fracture by the year 2050.

Review:

From the reviews of the second edition:

"This excellent pocket handbook covers the entire field of orthopedic trauma. The purpose is to stimulate residents’ interest in modern orthopedic traumatology. The audience is primarily orthopedists in training, although the book may also be helpful as a guide or review for experienced surgeons. ... All fractures/dislocations are covered, including hand, spine, and pediatric. This is an excellent clinical reference for residents working in a clinic or emergency room. ... The references are adequate and provide a basis for further study." (Mark Gonzalez, Doody’s Review Service, August, 2008)

"The handbook ... is intended to be a quick guide not only for trauma specialists but also for general orthopaedic surgeons, residents preparing for exams, physiotherapists, and other health care executives interested in orthopaedic traumatology. ... The book fulfils the intended purpose of being a new, easily readable handbook ... . can be strongly recommended reading for everyone interested in orthopaedic trauma care and as a quick up-to date review tool for those who are preparing for orthopaedic related exams." (Emal Wardak, SICOT e-Newsletter, Issue 12, September, 2009)
