This stunning book is a facsimile of the famous 19th century volume of Friedrich Schiller's poems. The original publication was a luxurious edition, complete with illustrations, photographs of paintings, and an ornate, relief cover with gold detailing. Comprising approximately 600 pages, the book is not only an homage to the poetry of one of Germany's great classical writers--Schilling (1759-1805) was a contemporary of Goethe--but it is also one of history's first examples of the publication of photographs of art. Taschen's painstaking reprint, which will include a booklet containing an analytical essay (in German only), will be published in 2005, marking the 200th anniversary of Stiller's death.
