Feb. 2021"). - "Wann haben Sie Beuys zum ersten Mal getroffen? - Das muss 1969 in seinem Atelier in Oberkassel gewesen sein. Dänische Freunde hatten mich zu ihm mitgenommen. Kurioserweise war das nur ein knappes Jahr, nachdem ich die Fotografie zu meinem Beruf gemacht hatte. Eigentlich war ich Sprachwissenschaftler und schrieb im Fach Sinologie an meiner Dissertation. Der "Stern" hatte mich als Fotograf in seine Redaktion aufgenommen. Bei dem Magazin habe ich meinen Beruf überhaupt erst erlernt. Ich hatte wenig Ahnung, bekam ein riesiges Gehalt und war eigentlich ein Lehrling. Aber ich wurde wie ein Profi behandelt und habe mich bewährt. Mit Beuys fängt sozusagen meine fotografische Karriere an, ist das nicht merkwürdig? Ich hatte bei unserem ersten Treffen keine Kamera dabei, wir saßen einfach zusammen" (M.
