Jaime Sabines (Tuxtla Gutiérrez,1926-México, D.F., 1999) es uno de los poetas mexicanos más importantes del siglo XX. Poeta imprescindible para miles de lectores en todos los países de lengua hispana, a lo largo de su vida fue distinguido con varios reconocimientos: Premio Chiapas 1959 –otorgado por el Ateneo de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas–, Premio Xavier Villaurrutia 1973, Premio Elías Sourasky 1982, Premio Nacional de Literatura 1983, Premio Juchimán de Plata 1986, Presea de la Ciudad de México 1991, Medalla Belisario Domínguez 1994 y el Premio Mazatlán de Literatura 1996, entre otros. El carácter coloquial y comprometido de su poesía, así como su conmovedora claridad, lo convirtieron en uno de los poetas más reconocidos y admirados de México.
Jaime Sabines (Tuxtla Gutiérrez, 1926-Mexico, D.F., 1999) is one of the most important Mexican poets of the twentieth century. An essential poet for thousands of readers in all Spanish-speaking countries, throughout his life he was distinguished with several awards: Chiapas Prize 1959 – awarded by the Ateneo de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas –, Xavier Villaurrutia Prize 1973, Elías Sourasky Prize 1982, National Literature Prize 1983, Juchimán de Plata Award 1986, Mexico City Award 1991, Belisario Domínguez Medal 1994 and the Mazatlán Literature Prize 1996, among others. The colloquial and committed nature of his poetry, as well as its moving clarity, made him one of the most recognized and admired poets in Mexico.
