About the Author

José Enrique Rodó (1871-1917). Uruguay. Se dedicó al periodismo, al ensayo y a la enseñanza. Fue miembro de la generación de 1900. Diputado por el Partido Colorado en varias ocasiones, pero crítico con el batllismo oficial, viajó a Europa en 1916 como corresponsal literario de Caras y Caretas. Fundó la Revista Nacional de Literatura y Ciencias Sociales (1895-1897), y ejerció la crítica literaria. Sus ensayos aparecieron en un volumen titulado La vida nueva.
