Protein structure and design is an area of burgeoning interest. This stems from our being able to create novel proteins at will using the methods of protein engineering and the potential of such proteins in a host of applications ranging from pharmaceuticals to environmentally friendly insecticides. At the same time enormous advances in techniques such as X-ray crystallography, NMR and computer-based modeling are enabling us to define protein structure and properties an undertake redesign with increased assurance.
