8vo. 7.5 x 5 inches. 125 pp. + [3] pp. publisher's advertisements. Bound in original yellow cloth with green titles, in unclipped dust wrapper with sunned spine. Spine slightly sunned and a little foxing of flyleaves, fore edge and margins; otherwise a very good copy. Signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by portrait frontispiece. Decorated by publisher's devices on half title and colophon pages. The philosopher Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) examines the balance between the authority of state power and the freedom of the individual set in the context of human history. Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields. We also offer a bookbinding and restoration service. Visitors to the shop are welcome and we exhibit at UK book fairs.
