About Alkahest Books
We have been in business since 1984, first as an open shop on Central St. in Evanston, IL, and now online: www.alkahestbooks.com. For many years we were a partner in Chicago Rare Book Center, which closed in 2017. We are members of the Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association, which holds book fairs in Chicago,and members of IOBA. We always ship books in a cardboard box, or in a few cases, protected by cardboard in a padded envelope. Dust jackets are protected in clear mylar covers. If your purchase is a gift, please let us know. We are happy to provide free gift wrapping and a small gift card.

All items are subject to prior sale. No drop shipping except by prior arrangement--email for details. You may order or inquire about books by email. Payment may be made via credit card. Other arrangement are possible, please inquire via email. If you wish to purchase using PayPal please go to my website alkahestbooksdotcom, as Abebooks does not facilitate PayPal payment.
Alkahest Books is a sole proprietorship. Illinois residents will be asked to remit Illinois sales tax.
Books may be returned to us for any reason within ten (10) days of receipt, through prior arrangement, and in original condition and packed and shipped securely with insurance at full sale price. Unless books are not as described or were damaged in transit, all return postage/shipping to be paid by buyer.
Shipping terms
Shipping costs are based on books weighing 2.0 LB. If your book order is heavy or oversized, we may contact you to let you know extra shipping is required.
International priority mail rates are based on the book fitting in a padded priority mail envelope with enough extra room to provide cardboard protection for it. If it doesn't fit, priority mail rates will be higher. Please note, media mail shipments to Hawaii and Alaska may take longer than 30 days.
