Second impression. xii, 201, (2) pp. Publisher's orange cloth with top edge gilt and gilt lettered leather title label. Binding bent, affecting lower portion of pages. Previous owner's name in ink to ffep, otherwise internally clean. Written by the French-born wine merchant, gourmet and prolific writer on wine, this is one of the first English books which focuses on pairing dishes with wine, also containing a wine dictionary and gastronomic dictionary. Written ten years after World War One, Simon discusses the growth of high quality drinking and eating establishments in London and the basis of hosting a good meal. 8vo.

We have been trading in Chiswick for 55 years - come and visit us in our bow-windowed c18th shop. All of our shipments are now tracked. Our Standard service is currently Royal Mail Tracked with FedEx, UPS and Parcelforce for larger parcels; local conditions vary so please be patient with us. Stephen Foster ; Foster Books, 183 Chiswick High Road, London W4 2DR. Old and rare books, a good turnover of stock leaning towards Arts subjects. Fine bindings, illustrated, literature. Only 5 minutes walk from Turnham Green tube station on the District Line in West London. The Chiswick shop is open Monday to Saturday 10-30 to 17-30 GMT and most Sundays 11 to 5 and earlier at the beginning of the month when the Flower and Antiques Markets are on in front of the shop (by all means call in advance to be sure).
