About this Item
[.] in a Series of Illustrations from Original Drawings with Descriptive Letterpress. Authored by Henry Radcliffe Crocker M.D., F.R.C.P., Physician to the Department for Diseases of the Skin, University College Hospital, London. Renowned for his fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians, Crocker is also credited with the original diagnosis of Joseph Merrick, later popularised as The Elephant Man. Elephant folio (57.5 x 43.5 cm), cloth over card boards with cloth straps. Original collection of plates with description, divided by the publisher into eight folders which correspond to the eight sections of the work. Also includes two title pages (vol.1 and vol. 2), giving the owner the option to rebind them accordingly. Detailing an array of skin diseases for research and medical purposes. Originally published in 1897, the collection marks Crocker's attempt at expanding common knowledge surrounding dermatology and skin-related disease. Complete and collated, with 96 chromolithographed plates alongside flyleaves containing the relevant medical information. Each section maintains its original binding. Pages are generally clean with some marking and foxing. Cover damage is also present, to varying extents across volumes. For example, water damage is particularly noticeable on section 4, whilst the cover of section 3 is heavily marked. (See pictures for additional insight, more available upon request). Plates are generally clear and unmarked. Considering the age and scarcity of the book, the item is in remarkably good condition. Seller Inventory # 036286
