Beneath Rome's Shadow: The Legion's Call

Two boys. One oath. A frontier where Rome’s certainty begins to crumble.

In the streets of Rome, the paths of Marcus Aelius and Titus Flavius cross for the first time. One has stolen two apples. The other carries a wooden sword. Marcus, the thoughtful son of a freedman and scribe, and Titus, the headstrong son of a veteran, could hardly be more different. Yet an unlikely friendship takes root, and with it, an oath: one day, they will march together beneath the Eagles.

Years later, their childhood games give way to the brutal reality of war. The legion carries them from Rome to the Rhine, where a land beyond Roman control begins on the far bank. Dense forests, fragile alliances, and an enemy who knows how to turn Rome’s own strengths against it make every march a journey into danger.

When their century is ordered to reinforce a threatened fort in Germania, Marcus and Titus are drawn ever deeper into a campaign of ambush, fire, and betrayal. As the elusive Armin lays his traps, the two friends must learn what truly holds a Roman shield wall together and the terrible price of a single mistake.

An atmospheric historical adventure about friendship, duty, and the struggle of ordinary legionaries to survive at the edge of the Roman Empire.

The first novel in the Beneath Rome’s Shadow series.
