Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. Within the Prussian justice system, the role of public prosecutors has drastically changed since their inception in the 19th century. Originally intended to serve as impartial overseers of criminal investigations, prosecutors have steadily accrued power and influence and now exert considerable sway over how the law is interpreted and enforced. The author contends that this shift has contributed to a decline in public confidence in the fairness and impartiality of the Prussian justice system, particularly with regard to the prosecution of political offenses. The author cites numerous examples of cases in which prosecutors have overstepped their bounds and initiated baseless or politically motivated prosecutions and argues these instances have undermined the authority of the judiciary. The book concludes by proposing a series of reforms aimed at reining in the power of prosecutors and restoring balance to the justice system. These reforms include measures to increase the independence of judges, limit the ability of prosecutors to initiate investigations without judicial oversight, and expand the rights of defendants. Ultimately, the author argues that these changes are necessary to ensure that the Prussian justice system is truly impartial, fair, and accountable to the public it serves.
