An essential reference on Bewick, described by Levis as being 'very complete catalogues of the Bewicks' works'. When the collection came up for auction in 1877 it was advertised as the 'largest and best selected Collection of the Works of Thomas and John Bewick ever yet offered for public competition. It has been formed with industry and great taste . and in many instances acquired with great difficulty at a large cost. It deserves the closest attention from Collectors, the proofs and and rare specimens being matchless, and the Engraved Woodcut Blocks comprising many of the finest of T. & J. Bewick's productions'.
