About this Item
E.ps sl. spotted. Sl. later pebble-grained blue cloth, lettered in gilt, title on spine & 'ELLEL GRANGE' on front board. A nice copy. Not in Glover & Greene. Hubin p.300, the only title listed by the author. Copac records five copies in the UK; OCLC adds no additional copies. The story begins with the fond childhood recollections of an orphaned boy who falls in love with a girl on a neighbouring estate; when they are older she moved to the Continent and he joins the army and is sent to India. Richard Mounteney-Jephson, 1842-1906, served as a lieutenant in the 9th Regiment and was the nephew of Sir Stanhope William Jephson, Bt. Ellel Grange is a grand house in Lancashire built in 1858 by the Sandemann family; this volume, originally a cheap paperback, was evidently bound for the library. Seller Inventory # 101779
