3 parts in 1. First thus. xv, 664 pp. Colour frontis, folding colour maps and numerous plans and photographs taken by the author in black and white. Publisher's red cloth with gilt decoration and lettering to board and gilt lettering to spine; top edge gilt. Extremities a bit worn, including rear joint and spine ends, with bumping to other edges and a couple of light marks to binding. Isolated cases of light foxing, though generally quite clean. Henry W. Cave went to Sri Lanka, then Ceylon, in 1872 as the private secretary to the Anglican Bishop of Colombo. From his 17 trips to India and Ceylon he wrote several books on the latter between 1893 and 1909. This is a single volume work made up of three sections, which were also sold individually - Section 1: Colombo, the South-West Coast and the Kelani Valley, Section 2: Kandy and the Highlands, Section 3: The Northern Provinces. 22cms tall, 18cms wide. Large 8vo.
