Critic and writer Herbert Read's copy, numbered and presented to him probably by the book's distributor, Faber and Faber. Illustrated cloth covered boards 'printed by offset lithography on white book cloth', internally spiral bound and printed to a very high standard on 'two-sheet ivorex board'. Dustjacket in good condition, not price-clipped, old paper repairs to verso, otherwise invisible when the book is shown. On the front pastedown a red 'Labore et Constantia' bookplate printed specially for this volume: 'This copy of A Book of Type-faces belongs to [manuscript] Herbert Read. [print] It is numbered [manuscript] 195'. Fabers distributed the book and had a longstanding connection with Read who was, by the early 1950s, a leading cultural critic and taste-maker in the United Kingdom.
