The author Brian Reed is mentioned only in the introduction to the reprint and the original title was "Modern Locomotive Classes." In this reprint edition the extended sub-title is: "Principal Big Four Locomotive Classes As At 1945." Engines include some dating back to 1911 while others, built during WWII, including some in the USA, are described. 62 pages including index., each of the almost 60 locomotives described has a photo and profile plan, with measurements, above and below the technical text. Laminated colour pictorial covers VG+, ditto text block, colour pictorial DJ repeats hard covers and also VG+.
