Bound in original cloth, gilt, (red titles in one instance), in unclipped (except The Golden Virgin and A Test to Destruction) dust wrappers, some with slightly sunned spines and edge chips, including at head and tail of spine. DONKEY BOY HAS FACSIMILE WRAPPER., REST ORIGINAL. Some minor wear to extremities, including occasional edge sunning, and scattered foxing in earlier vols., including edges. Only two volumes have ownership indications, an embossed stamp and a 1970 signature. Decorated by owl devices at end of text as colophon. A complete set of the first editions of Williamson's fifteen novel saga, A Chronicle of Ancient Sunlight, published 1951-69. It relates the experiences of his hero, Phillip Maddison, including his service on the Western Front, which occupies five of the novels. The content of the work reflects the author's own life, but 'is fiction, not autobiography.
