Armourial bookplate of Sir Humphrey de Trafford, Bt., the crest figure and motto, 'How Thus,' being also blocked on lower spine, gilt. Illustrated by 8 chromolithograph plates, including frontispiece, by 62 wood engravings in text and by tables. A study of colour theory, using historical examples, and a critique of poor taste in colour design. By Sir John Gardner Wilkinson (1797-1875), best known as a pioneering Egyptologist. This copy may have been owned by Sir Humphrey de Trafford, 2nd Bt. (1808-86), of Trafford Park, or possibly by his son of the same name (1862-1929). A scarce title.
